Rahu Swallowing the Moon

Combinations of Power (Rahu and Ketu)
By Joni Patry, 2008

In Vedic astrology the lunar nodes, known as Rahu and Ketu, have special powers in a chart. Often referred to as our karmic destiny, they indicate our greatest gifts and our darkest issues. In prediction they are where the annual eclipses fall, and indicate the areas of our life that involve the most transformation for that year. When the lunar nodes are combined with another planet they take on the quality of that planet. Each combination will produce very different results.

Rahu and Ketu are described as shadowy planets because they are associated with the eclipses of the Sun and the Moon. These shadows developed the powerful myths and meanings bestowed on the nodes, myths of struggles with demons, serpents, and forces of darkness and light. Symbolically they may be seen as our own shadows. Continue reading

“Nazar”/”Drishti”/”Kannu”, however you want to call it is the same all over India. In ancient times, they understood the power of thought and even speech. People adhered to Dharma and hence their thoughts and speech would be true/come true – such was the power of their mental energies and focus.

The concept of Drishti/Nazar is also that knowingly/unknowingly – thoughts of jealousy and envy must not affect someone/something.

In effect, to mar “perfection” a beauty spot is placed on children, brides and bridegrooms. Continue reading

Kala Sarpa Yoga

Rahu-Kethu - shadowplanetKalsarpa Yoga in Horoscope – Effects of Kala Sarpa Yogam
From Hindu Devotional Blog

Kalsarpa Yoga or Kala Sarpa Yogam is a dreaded yoga found in a person’s horoscope where the person under the influence of this yog leads a very miserable life. ‘Kal’ means ‘Time’ and ‘Sarpa’ means ‘Snake or Serpent’.

When some stars concentrate at a single particular position in the horoscope it is the conjunction of planets and in astrology it is termed as “yog”.

Rahu and Lord Ketu are believed to be shadow planets. When all planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu Kalsarpa is formed. Lord Rahu and Ketu are placed opposite to each other at 180 degree and they don’t have any solid form and cannot be seen with naked eyes. Continue reading

Kala Sarpa Dosha

Cobra Tower KuwaitKala Sarpa: Remove Snake Curses
From Astro Ved

Kala Sarpa is a ‘yoga’ as opposed to a ‘dosha’. A yoga can prove to be beneficial or favorable at some point in life while a dosha can be unfavorable, if left unchecked. When you understand how to use the power of Kala Sarpa yoga you can approach it with wisdom rather than fear … just like a material world snake. Rahu is the planet that would break/cease and Ketu is the planet that would pose threats.

Astrologically, when all the planets are sandwiched between Rahu and Ketu, it is deemed to be Kala Sarpa. If the planets are moving towards Ketu, it is Kala Sarpa yoga. If the planets are moving towards Rahu, it is Kala Sarpa dosha. If the ascendant or Moon is not in the axis and all the planets are in between Rahu and Ketu, it is also Kala Sarpa yoga, even though the planets are moving towards Rahu.
